EbD-TEEMS™: Grade 4: NxtGen (P256E)
With the flip of switch a light comes on. But as our natural resources dwindle and the negative impact of the use of fossil fuels increases, the need to develop alternative energy sources that are both affordable and efficient becomes even more urgent. One of those alternative energy options is harnessing solar energy. While solar power is already available, there are still struggles in solar panel design. Affordability and lack of storage of the energy generated are two of the obstacles scientists and engineers are tackling today. In our unit, The Power of Solar, students will learn how to apply solar power to a practical need:to generate electricity for a model outdoor arcade game. Students will be able to apply futures thinking—design thinking—with the lessons in this unit, helping our students develop understanding to become engaged citizens.
