Making and Doing with STEL: Combining the Signature Trademark of T&E with the New Standards

In Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy (STEL), making and doing is referred to as T&E’s signature trademark. In an effort to contribute to the growing implementation of STEL standards, the presenters will discuss background, alignment, and the benefits of creating standards-aligned activities in their making and doing-centered course.

Presented By:

Justin Egresitz is a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Technology, Design, and Engineering Education program within the College of Education at North Carolina State University. Justin completed a B.S. in Technology and Engineering Education and an M.S. in Innovation and Technology at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of Epsilon Pi Tau, the International Honor Society for Professions in Technology and the Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association (TEECA). Research interests include motivation for making and doing and AR technology in the technology and engineering education classroom.


Dr. Steven Miller is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Technology, Engineering, and Design Education. He holds degrees in Industrial Arts/Technology Education, School Administration, and an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from NC State University. His professional career has included machining and construction trades as well as teaching and educational administration at both middle and high school. He has served as a public high school principal and Instructional Supervisor with Wake Technical Community College. His career paths have driven his research interests into strands pertaining to applied STEM Education programs that increase school achievement and bridge gaps in student achievement – especially for underserved students. His research interests include motivation for students to "Make and Do."
